III. PV2Heat - Solar hot water tanks
A solar, or PV boiler, as the name suggests, is a hot water boiler with one or more integrated solar heating elements, as well as a control unit for efficient use of the solar panels.
The main advantage of such a boiler, similar to solar water heaters, is its simple construction and connection to the solar panels - it can be easily installed without any effort. They can also be used as hot water sources for caravans and motorhomes, allowing hot water to be produced without the need for a battery.
However, there is one notable disadvantage to consider - the integrated solar heating capacity which, although applicable to small caravan and chalet boilers, will be more suitable for supporting larger tanks. But under favourable conditions, solar panels will be able to heat the tank and, as with solar heating elements, they can also be connected to the common distribution network (simple socket connection) or, for larger tanks, via a heating exchanger.
