Hot water boilers and storage tanks are used to store and heat water using an electric heating element (including solar), heat from a solar collector, or heat from a heating system, high temperature heating system and heat pumps.
They can be divided into three types, depending on the purpose of the tank:
- Hot water boilers - sanitary tanks whose sole purpose is to produce hot water for domestic and hygienic use. Usually their capacity is small (up to 200L), but larger tanks are also available;
- Accumulation tanks - tanks with or without insulation, used for the storage of hot water for heating, with the purpose of serving as an accumulator or thermal reserve. This water may not be used for human consumption, but special sanitary storage tanks can also be purchased to hold a reserve of hot water for hygienic purposes;
- Multi-purpose tank - a tank whose main purpose is to maintain a reserve of hot water for heating purposes and to produce usable hot water by means of a built-in small tank or instantaneous hot water heater. These tanks are usually also equipped with additional heat exchangers for connection to a low-temperature heating source or solar collector.
