Vacuum solar collectors receive solar heat through a series of vacuum tubes, through which the heat is transferred to a heat transfer medium via copper tubes. Unlike flat plate solar collectors, such a system is lighter and in terms of overall efficiency is able to absorb a wider amount of solar energy from a wider solar irradiation arc (increasing its efficiency also during the shoulder seasons and in sub-optimal mounting arcs). Their disadvantage is the relative fragility of vacuum tubes, which makes them less robust in extreme weather conditions and especially when ground-mounted.
